Sis Shamae Matthews
Groves Sister Singer/Songwriter Trinity Christian Fellowship Church New Orleans, LA ***************************************************** Shamae Diane Matthews was born into a family of music. Her mother sang, and started Shamae and her sisters singing together when they were young children. Shamae is the second oldest of the Groves Sisters, and loves singing with her sisters. Her grandmother, Grace E. Groves was an extraordinary musician and spread her love of music with all she encountered. Shamae was summer missionary with Child Evangelism Fellowship’s Christian Youth in Action program for 5 years. When she was in high school, she began to direct the dynamite choir at her home church, Rapture Missionary Baptist Church where her father, Raymond A. Groves III was and is Pastor and founder. Around that time, she and a few friends started VIP, (Voices In Praise) Gospel choir as an extracurricular activity at Denver’s East High School. It was open to all students, and included talented vocalists as well as musicians, including her younger sister Christin N. Grant and Spirit of Grace’s keyboardist, Joseph Brown. While living near New Orleans, Louisiana, Shamae became a member of Trinity Christian Fellowship Church, with Edwin. C. “Rudy” Scott, Pastor. While at Trinity, Shamae taught a children’s Sunday School class, was the chair of their Youth & Young Adult Ministry, served with the Health Ministry, and directed the youth/young adult choir, Trinity Soldiers for Christ. After moving back to Denver, Shamae sang and performed with multiple groups, bands and venues, and performed in the ensemble of Ignite Theater’s production of Dreamgirls. Currently Shamae and her two children live in Denver, Colorado. She has returned to Rapture Missionary Baptist Church, where she is the assistant director for the sanctuary choir, and teaches the adult women’s Sunday school class. Shamae is excited about being a part of such a talented group of individuals, and looks forward to bringing encouragement, hope, inspiration and the love of Christ to all who hear her music.
Sis. Christin Grant
Sis. Christin Grant
Groves Sister Singer/Songwriter Rapture Missionary Baptist Church Denver,CO **************************************************** Christin was born 12 weeks premature, on January 9th, the last of three girls born to her Parents. It would seem even from birth, she has been eager to achieve and conquer. Ready before she was ready. Before she was able to talk, she was humming and babbling songs to the sound of her parent’s sweet voices, and singing familiar nursery rhymes and church songs. Before she could speak in full sentences she was able to pick out a part, and sing in three part harmony with her two sisters. God blessed her with an ear for harmony, and with this gift she has been able to compose. She discovered a passion for writing, before she was able to write. Her mother can recall endless scraps of paper with mindless scrabble, as Christin inquired repititously “Did I write yet mommy? Did I write?!” And her mother would smile an encouraging “Almost”. That encouragement ignited a love for words, and the art they can be, if assembled creatively. With enough of mama’s help and encouragement, she began writing poetry and short stories. As she grew older and bolder, and more creative, she began writing longer stories, longer poems, and songs. God blessed her with an eye for the art of words, and with this gift she has been able to write. Christin’s creativity comes from being a 3rd child of 4. Creativity is a must for one who finds herself in such a chronological position, and God blessed her to be creative in many ways. God has blessed her with the gift of a healthy imagination, and with this gift she has been able to sing. Her love for Christ stemmed from growing up in a Christian household. The baby girl of a Preacher, Christin quickly learned both the value and necessity of Christ and Faith. Her father taught her, in no uncertain circumstances should one ever change their beliefs to fit their lifestyle, but instead, change one’s lifestyle to live their beliefs. That faith in God is the key to life. He taught her that the Love of Jesus Christ will make all things possible, and that God is the only one able to show her a perfect love when no one else can. Watered by a readiness to spread the gospel, an eagerness to learn and achieve, a passion for words as numerous and beautiful as the stars, and nurtured with the much needed Love and teachings of God, as the sun is needed by a flower, Christin bloomed. She grew into a beautiful flower, sharing her beauty and the power of the God, who created her. Christin is proof that even your pain serves a purpose, and that God is never unaware of what he’s doing.
